St Helens legend Jonny Lomax has announced his retirement at the end of the Super League season, concluding a 20-year career. The 35-year-old, who hasn't played since fracturing his jaw in June, made 388 appearances for Saints, winning five Grand Finals, one Challenge Cup and a World Club Challenge. He earned four caps for Great Britain and 11 for England, including the 2017 World Cup final against Australia.

"Over the last 20 years, I have been able to live out a boyhood dream. Achieving far more than I could ever have imagined. Representing and captaining my hometown club and, of course, the pinnacle, representing England and Great Britain," he told the club website. He added he would retire at 36, grateful for the life the game gave him despite 19 operations, including 12 knee operations by the age of 26.

Saints chairman Eamonn Mc Manus called Lomax, who debuted in March 2009 at 18, "the bravest of brave in the bravest of sports". St Helens sit seventh with three games remaining, two points behind reigning champions Hull KR, as they aim to secure a top six spot and avoid missing the play-offs for the first time.
