Former rugby star Joe Marler is set to become the BBC’s first celebrity Gladiator, joining the upcoming fourth series in 2027. The 36-year-old, known for his uncompromising style and larger‑than‑life humour, will compete under the moniker Mauler, facing contenders in the high‑octane arena.

The announcement came in a video posted on Instagram, recorded in the Gladiators dressing room, where Marler declared, “Mauler will see you now.” The BBC described his debut as a series of “special appearances packed with power, personality and plenty of surprises,” highlighting his trademark physicality and competitive spirit.

Filming is currently underway in Sheffield, and the former England international will join established Gladiators such as Nitro, Viper, Diamond and Sabre. The revival of Gladiators, which first aired on ITV in the 1990s and returned on BBC One in 2024, has already sparked a celebrity spin‑off featuring names like AJ Odudu, Sara Pascoe, Chris Ramsey and George Clarke.
