Jaume Guardeno, 23, was moved to a Barcelona clinic that specialises in neurorehabilitation after a serious crash on March 31. The cyclist, who placed 14th in last year’s Vuelta a España, suffered a head injury when his bike hit a rock and collided with a car.

Guardeno was initially taken to the intensive‑care unit at Parc Tauli Hospital in Sabadell, where emergency crews, including HEMS helicopter services, stabilised him. Doctors Andrey Rodriguez and Guillem Gruartmoner de Vera oversaw his critical care before the decision to transfer him to the specialised facility.

Team Caja Rural‑Seguros RGA released a statement praising the “exceptional care” received during the ambulance transfer and at the hospital. The squad extended full support to Guardeno, his family and friends, acknowledging the combined effort of neurosurgery and maxillofacial teams in his treatment and ongoing.

Guardeno’s move to the Barcelona clinic marks a critical step in his recovery, aiming to restore neurological function after a potentially career‑threatening injury. His absence leaves Caja Rural‑Seguros RGA short of a promising rider as the team prepares for the upcoming season and a boost.
