Former British number one Jack Draper has withdrawn from the Mubadala DC Open due to his recurring long-term arm injury. The former world number four has managed only 14 matches in the past 12 months, largely because of a bruised humerus he has tried to overcome with extended rest periods.

"It's hard to tell when you can push [and] when not to push," Draper said at Wimbledon. His initial comeback this season was derailed by knee tendinitis, and he had not played for over two months before returning at Eastbourne in June. Reaching the semi-finals came at a cost, with his arm injury flaring again at Wimbledon and leaving Draper "devastated" at pulling out of his home Grand Slam.

Now ranked 147th in the world, Draper has not contested a major since the US Open last August. If fit for Flushing Meadows this year, he would need to come through qualifying or receive a wildcard. In Washington, Mackenzie McDonald replaces him as a lucky loser.
