Scotland flanker Hamish Watson has signed for French Top 14 club Castres Olympique following his departure from Edinburgh. The move comes as Castres sought to replace Dalton Papali'i, who is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after Achilles tendon surgery.

Watson, who spent a period on loan at Leicester Tigers last season, expressed his excitement about the "fantastic opportunity" to play in French rugby. He stated that the club contacted him recently regarding Papali'i's injury, prompting a swift decision to join on a one-year contract.

With 59 Scotland caps, Watson brings extensive international experience to Castres, having played for Edinburgh since 2011 and made nearly 160 appearances. The club highlighted his renowned work rate, ruck prowess, and ability to compete at the highest international level.
