The Rugby Football League has granted membership to a new Halifax Panthers club after the previous team's liquidation. The new club will take over the former team's position in the second-tier Championship for the 2026 season. This move ensures the continuation of Halifax Panthers' 153-year history in professional rugby league.

Earlier this season, the old club's financial collapse left fixtures against Sheffield Eagles and Barrow Raiders unfulfilled. The RFL confirmed that the new club will complete these missed games on dates to be determined. Former England rugby union international Kyle Eastmond had been coaching the team before its demise.

Local businessman Martyn Buchan led negotiations to establish the new club, expressing relief that Halifax will continue competing. The RFL provided crucial support throughout the process, with Buchan emphasizing plans to simplify operations and strengthen community engagement. This development preserves professional rugby league in Halifax and maintains the sport's presence in West Yorkshire.
