The Great Britain women's flag football team missed out on automatic qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics after a 27-21 semi-final loss to the USA at the World Championships in Dusseldorf.

Despite leading 21-7 at halftime with touchdowns from Grace Conway, Angelica Tait and Emily Kemp, GB could not hold on as the defending champions rallied to win. Canada defeated Mexico 20-6 to claim the bronze medal, while the USA advanced to face Italy in the final.

Since the USA qualify automatically as hosts, the bronze medal match winner secures the remaining Olympic spot. GB, ranked third globally, will have another chance to qualify in two years. The men's team lost 50-35 to Switzerland before beating Austria 28-20 and will face Brazil for 13th place.

Mexico remains world No. 1 despite previous World final losses to the USA, having defeated them in both the 2022 and 2025 World Games.
