Day one of athletics at the 2026 Commonwealth Games saw new Scottish heroes rise as Eilish McColgan withdrew from the women's 10,000m. Megan Keith, the sole Scottish competitor, finished ninth in 32:22.11.

In the hammer throw, Canada's Ethan Katzberg set a Commonwealth record with a throw of 80.97m. Scotland's Chris Bennett, competing in his fourth and final Games, finished fifth with a throw of 69.48m, concluding a 24-year career. Alexander Thomson placed ninth in the T38 100m final.

Jemma Reekie and Erin Wallace advanced to the women's 800m semi-finals, with Reekie finishing second in her heat in 2:03.09 behind England's Georgia Hunter Bell, and Wallace posting a time of 2:03.15. Mena Scatchard narrowly missed qualification by 0.06 seconds.

Earlier, Stephen Mackenzie secured a spot in the men's long jump final with a leap of 7.75m. Angela McAuslan-Kelly also progressed to the women's hammer final after a first-round throw of 60.59m.
