Para-powerlifter Finlay Davidson is set to compete for Scotland at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The 21-year-old will participate in the men's Lightweight Under 72kg category, marking the first time a Para-sport event will open the Games. Davidson, inspired by the 2022 Games, aims to compete in front of a home crowd, calling it a dream come true.

Davidson, currently ranked seventh in the Commonwealth, is mentored by coach Neil Crosbie. He acknowledges the strong competition from Mark Swan of England and Malaysia's Bonnie Bunyau Gustin. His focus is on improving his strength and closing the gap with higher-ranked lifters. The Games will feature the largest Para-sport program in its history, highlighting the inclusion of Para-athletes.

Davidson's selection was announced as part of the nationwide campaign, All In, promoting community pride and building momentum for the Games. He believes the event will be a proud moment, fostering the involvement of people in sport at a grassroots level. The decision by Glasgow to host after Australia's withdrawal made this a reality.

Next, all eyes will be on Davidson as he prepares for the competition. His performance will be a key storyline, especially with the added pressure and excitement of representing his nation on home soil. Watch for his progress as he aims to challenge for a medal in July.
