Farooqi recalled, Glamorgan lose key paceman for T20 Blast

Glamorgan have lost strike bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi for the rest of the T20 Blast after the Afghanistan Cricket Board recalled him. The 25‑year‑old arrived in March, playing the opening two games and claiming four wickets in a defeat to Northamptonshire and two more against Gloucestershire. The club issued a statement respecting the board’s decision and wishing Farooqi success with Afghanistan.

Farooqi was one of three overseas signings alongside Australian all‑rounder Nathan McAndrew and South African batsman Colin Ingram. County rules permit only two overseas players per game, so his exit forces Glamorgan to reshuffle. McAndrew is slated to debut when they host Somerset on Friday, giving the side a fresh option in the middle order. The coaching staff will also look to promote young paceman Jake Smith.

Glamorgan sit fifth in the South Group after six matches, three points behind the qualifying line, and losing Farooqi reduces their chance of a playoff push. Without his pace, the club must rely on domestic bowlers and the remaining overseas talent to keep points rolling. The next fixture will test whether the reshaped lineup can sustain momentum.
