Northern Ireland's Fionn McLaughlin has gone from racing video games to competing in Formula 3 in just 18 months. The 18-year-old, who dominated the British F4 championship in his first season of car racing, credits his gaming background for helping him learn tracks before ever stepping into a real racing car.

McLaughlin's journey accelerated when Red Bull Racing selected him for their junior program in August 2024. Since then, he's raced in Macau, tested in Spain, and competed in New Zealand's Toyota Formula Regional Oceania Trophy. The jump to Formula 3 machinery has been dramatic, with McLaughlin comparing his first drive to being in 'a rocket ship' due to the increased power and aerodynamics.

The Magherafelt native emphasizes staying humble despite his rapid success, noting that 'life moves quick so make the most of it.' While he'd love to win in his debut Formula 3 season, McLaughlin focuses on learning and improving as part of his path toward Formula 1, backed by his family and Red Bull's support.
