Remco Evenepoel reduced Tadej Pogacar's Tour de France general classification lead by 28 seconds with a commanding win in the stage 16 time-trial. The Olympic champion finished the 26.1km course in 32 minutes and 19 seconds, marking his second consecutive stage victory.

Pogacar came in 32 minutes and 47 seconds, decreasing his overall lead to 4 minutes and 32 seconds. Denmark's Mattias Skjelmose secured third place, over a minute behind the leaders. Evenepoel expressed pride in his win on Belgium's national day, calling it "pretty special."

Despite Evenepoel's triumph, his teammate Florian Lipowitz was forced to withdraw due to a crash. Lipowitz had been fifth overall before his fall, which occurred on a bend. Evenepoel acknowledged the setback, describing the victory as "bitter-sweet."
