Elfyn Evans, leader of the World Rally Championship, retired from Rally Kenya after sustaining suspension damage during Saturday's grueling stage. The event's notoriously rough terrain proved unforgiving, with mud infiltrating critical components. Toyota's deputy team principal Juha Kankkunen attributed the retirements to extreme conditions: "The last stage was quite muddy and tough, and the mud went into the engine side and broke the alternators for both of them [Solberg and Ogier]." Elfyn Evans, already battling a pre-existing transmission issue, couldn't overcome the setback. Kankkunen emphasized the event's unpredictability: "I've been in Kenya so many times that it doesn't surprise me when something like that happens."
