Duncan Scott delivered a golden start for Scotland at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, overcoming pressure to win gold in his first event. The swimmer, a vocal supporter of Glasgow salvaging the Games, secured his 14th Commonwealth medal in his fourth appearance, almost exactly 12 years after his first.

"I don't usually feel the expectation, but that one I probably did," Scott admitted, highlighting his desire to kickstart the team and engage the home crowd. "Simply because it's day one and I love representing Scotland and you want to try and get the whole team off to a good start."

Scott appeared unfazed by the pressure, even a post-race visit to drug testers not troubling him. Having secured his gold, the Alloa native now has the weekend off, having more than contributed to setting the Glasgow 2026 Games off on a high note.
