New Zealand’s veteran all‑rounder Sophie Devine and fast bowler Lea Tahuhu have confirmed they will hang up their whites at the close of this summer’s Women’s T20 World Cup. The 36‑year‑old Devine, who quit One‑Day Internationals after last year’s 50‑over tournament, has amassed 310 caps across both white‑ball formats since debuting in 2006. Tahuhu, 35, also bows out after a decade‑plus.

Across T20s Devine has compiled 3,587 runs and taken 128 wickets, placing her among the sport’s elite all‑rounders. Tahuhu’s tally exceeds 200 international appearances, and both were instrumental in New Zealand’s surprise triumph at the 2024 UAE World Cup. The departures coincide with veteran skipper Suzie Bates confirming her own exit after the tournament, and her experience will be missed in the upcoming series against Australia.

Head coach Ben Sawyer called the simultaneous retirements of the three senior players a “rare and special occasion”, noting the void they leave in leadership and on‑field performance. With Devine, Tahuhu and Bates forming the backbone of the side for 15 years, New Zealand now faces a rebuilding phase as it seeks to defend its title. Pacer Brooke Halliday is expected to step into the fast‑bowling rotation.
