Dutch cyclist Demi Vollering captured her maiden Giro d'Italia title on Sunday, overtaking race leader Anna van der Breggen in a dramatic final stage showdown. The FDJ-Suez rider launched her decisive attack on the Colletta di Brondello climb, dropping Van der Breggen with 39km remaining to seize control of the maglia rosa.

Antonia Niedermaier had earlier sparked the day's excitement by attacking with 80km to go, forming a breakaway with Elisa Longo Borghini and Niamh Fisher-Black. Vollering bridged to this group 28km from the finish, setting up her overall victory by 30 seconds over Niedermaier. The result marked a remarkable comeback after Van der Breggen lost nearly a minute in the closing kilometers.

Longo Borghini, winner of the previous two Giros, claimed the stage victory in the sprint finish ahead of Fisher-Black. This triumph completes Vollering's Grand Tour trilogy following her La Vuelta Femenina wins in 2024 and 2025, plus her 2023 Tour de France victory.

Vollering described the final climb as "the time trial of my life," acknowledging the risk required to secure the overall win. The Dutch champion's tactical precision on the Colletta di Brondello climb delivered cycling's biggest prize and cemented her status among the sport's elite.
