De Vera's Wales rugby debut thanks to parents' wrong turn

Jenna De Vera made her Wales senior rugby debut in the Six Nations, coming on as a replacement in the 38-7 defeat to France. The Bristol Bears centre's path to international rugby began with an unusual geographical misunderstanding. Her Filipino parents settled in Llanelli after her father misread a job advertisement, assuming locations listed were in London when they were actually in west Wales.

De Vera waited three years after her first senior call-up to make her debut, overcoming a serious knee injury that sidelined her for over a year. Wales head coach Sean Lynn praised her resilience, noting her leadership and work ethic impressed the coaching group during February's camp. The former Wales Under-20s captain finally received her opportunity after being a late call-up following Carys Cox's withdrawal.

The Cardiff Arms Park debut meant more to De Vera than just rugby success, representing a connection to her dual Filipino-Welsh identity. "The most perfect day ever," she described the occasion, with family and friends present to witness the milestone. De Vera now hopes to feature again when Wales face world champions England at Ashton Gate.
