De La Hoya says no Garcia‑Benn talks yet

Oscar De La Hoya told Boxing Scene there are no negotiations for a September showdown between Ryan Garcia and Britain’s Conor Benn. Garcia had hinted at a Las Vegas bout, but Golden Boy Promotions’ boss said no promoter has approached him. He stressed Golden Boy holds the final say on Garcia’s career and will not be pressured into a deal.

Benn left Matchroom in February, signing a one‑fight deal with Zuffa Boxing, the UFC‑backed outfit funded by Dana White and Saudi capital, then secured a multi‑fight pact. De La Hoya, a vocal critic of Zuffa’s push to rewrite the Ali Reform Act, warned the group’s ambitions could reshape fighter pay and control. He remains open to dialogue, even with White.

Garcia, 27, last defended his WBC welterweight title with a unanimous decision over Mario Barrios in February; Benn, 29, beat Regis Prograis at catchweight in April. Their Twitter feud grew, with Garcia taunting “whooping Connor” and Benn demanding a signed contract. De La Hoya concluded the bout hinges on details, not hype, and remains unscheduled until both camps reach agreement.
