South African swimmer Chad le Clos revealed that his apartment in Sea Point, Cape Town, was destroyed by a fatal fire shortly after he became the most decorated athlete in Commonwealth Games history. Le Clos achieved this milestone by winning his 21st medal, surpassing Emma McKeon.

The fire, which occurred on the evening of July 30, spread rapidly through his apartment block, consuming his home of over a decade. "Sadly my home, where I've lived for more than a decade, burnt down and there is nothing left to salvage," Le Clos stated on Instagram. The blaze also tragically claimed the life of one of his neighbours, a 93-year-old resident.

Le Clos, the 2012 Olympic gold medallist, expressed his heartbreak and offered condolences to the victim's family. He also launched a fundraising campaign to support his neighbours affected by the fire, emphasizing the strength of their tight-knit community during this difficult time.
