LA Wildfire Recovery Plan Taps $250M Muni Bonds

More than a year after wildfires devastated Pacific Palisades, the Uplifters Foundation plans to build new multi-million dollar houses in the disaster area. The nonprofit intends to issue up to $250 million in municipal bonds through the California Public Finance Authority. Unlike many groups that finance affordable housing, Uplifters plans to construct luxury homes for purchase.

The initiative targets the slow-to-recover Los Angeles enclave, aiming to replace destroyed properties with new construction funded by public debt. Home construction will focus on the Fiske Street area, a key location in the heart of Pacific Palisades. The plan represents a novel approach to disaster recovery, leveraging the muni bond market to finance high-end residential development in a fire-zone setting.
