British teenager Carys Lloyd secured her first professional victory at Tour of Brugge, holding off former world champion Elisa Balsamo in an exciting sprint finish. The 19-year-old Movistar rider powered through in the final 200 meters as Italy's Balsamo couldn't close the gap on the line. This triumph marks a breakthrough moment for the young British cyclist in her professional career.

Lloyd, who was the youngest rider in the World Tour peloton in 2025, described the chaotic final kilometers where sprinters lacked proper leadouts. "With about 500 metres to go all the sprinters were left with no leadouts so it was everyone for themselves," she said. Her mechanic had jokingly offered to take her to a Lego store if she won, a promise now fulfilled with this unexpected victory.

Dutch rider Nienke Veenhoven claimed third place while pre-race favorite Lorena Wiebes finished ninth after being boxed in near the finish. Among British riders, Zoe Backstedt placed 18th, while Elynor Backstedt and Millie Couzens were among those who crashed in the final 2.3km of the 143.7km race. Lloyd's win provides a confidence boost as she continues her development in the professional ranks.
