British number one Cameron Norrie crashed out of the Italian Open in the second round, beaten 6-3 7-5 by Argentina's Thiago Agustin Tirante. The 17th seed and world number 19 lost his opening service game and fell behind 3-0 in the first set, which Tirante served out in just 34 minutes. The second set proved more competitive until the unseeded Tirante broke for a 6-5 lead and closed out the match with a flawless service game.

Norrie's exit at age 30 ends British singles representation in Rome, with Katie Boulter already eliminated in the women's first round. Jack Draper, Emma Raducanu and Sonay Kartal were among the absentees due to injury and illness issues. Tirante, currently Argentina's seventh-ranked men's player at a career-high world number 69, now faces either Italy's 10th seed Flavio Cobolli or France's Terence Atmane in round three.
