Buttler defends aggressive approach amid T20 slump

England captain Jos Buttler has refused to rein in his aggressive batting style despite a 14-innings fifty drought in international cricket this winter. After dismissals for three against Scotland and Italy, former captain Nasser Hussain suggested Buttler should build innings more cautiously. However, Buttler maintains he must continue playing the game rather than focusing solely on personal statistics.

The 35-year-old England batter, arguably the country's greatest white-ball player, has not reached a fifty in 14 international innings. His last significant contribution came with 83 from 30 balls against South Africa in September. Teammate Jacob Bethell dismissed concerns about Buttler's form, stating "no one in that side is worried about Jos in terms of performance" and expressing confidence he will deliver when needed in crucial tournament stages.

England traveled to Sri Lanka after an inconsistent group stage campaign, securing edgy wins over Italy, Scotland, and Nepal. They face co-hosts Sri Lanka in their first Super 8s match on Sunday in Pallekele, a venue where England previously secured a 3-0 T20 series victory earlier this year. Bethell emphasized the confidence boost from that series victory, noting the team knows the conditions and their opponents well.
