Former England Test captain Ben Stokes starred with bat and ball as promotion favourites Durham secured a crushing 338-run victory over Derbyshire in the Rothesay County Championship. At The Our Coop Ground, Derby, Durham dominated day three after posting 295-6. Young opener Ben Mc Kinney anchored the innings with a masterful 140 from 162 balls, supported by Will Rhodes’ 52. Stokes added an unbeaten 66 before declaration set Derbyshire a target of 423.

The hosts had earlier collapsed for 156, bowled out by England paceman Matthew Potts, who claimed 5-46. Durham’s quick bowling proved ruthless in the second innings, as Derbyshire crumbled to just 84 all out. This marks the heaviest margin of defeat by runs in the county side’s history.

Potts finished with match figures of 8-68, extending his lead as the Championship’s leading wicket-taker, while Stokes finished with devastating figures of 5-17. The comprehensive win moves Durham significantly closer to a return to Division One.
