Para-swimmer Barry McClements secured a Commonwealth Games silver medal in the men's S9 100m backstroke, adding to Northern Ireland's medal tally. This achievement follows Bethany Firth's bronze in the women's S14 100m freestyle.

McClements, who previously won bronze in the same event at the 2022 Games in Birmingham, narrowly finished behind Australia's Timothy Hodge with a time of 1:03.68. "It means a lot. We don't get to represent Northern Ireland unless we're at the Commonwealth Games," McClements stated, emphasizing the privilege of representing his country.
