Northern Ireland's Ellie McCartney has secured a bronze medal in the women's 200m breaststroke final at the Commonwealth Games. The 21-year-old swimmer finished third with a time of 2:24.73, just ahead of Australia's Ella Ramsay.

McCartney's bronze marks her first senior international medal, following her success at the Commonwealth Youth Games and a European Under-23 gold. This is the third medal for Northern Ireland in the pool, with previous successes by Bethany Firth and Barry McClements.

Other Northern Ireland athletes also achieved success. Gary Kelly, Chloe Wilson, and Shauna O'Neill won bronze medals in bowls, and four boxers are guaranteed medals. In swimming, Jack McMillan finished sixth in the men's 200m freestyle. Daniel Wiffen is set to compete in the men's 1500m freestyle, aiming for his first medal.
