Andrew Musgrave's Olympic Struggle Ends in 6th Place

Andrew Musgrave's quest for a Winter Olympics medal ended in sixth place in the 10km freestyle event, but not before a dramatic finish that saw the 35-year-old Scot vomiting mid-interview. The Huntly-native delivered Britain's best-ever performance in Olympic cross-country skiing, surpassing the previous record set by his seventh-place finish in the 2018 skiathlon.

Musgrave believed he could have challenged for fourth place but was undone by the heat in Tesero and the dominance of Norwegian competitors. "I went out, did the first two laps super well and everything went to plan," he told BBC Sport, but the final hills proved too challenging. The Scot, who relocated to Norway 17 years ago, acknowledged that while sixth place without a medal feels similar to fourth, he was disappointed to be beaten by so many Norwegians.

This performance marks another milestone for Musgrave, who now holds the record for most Winter Games appearances by a British cross-country skier, second only to Mike Dixon. Despite the physical toll and missed medal opportunity, Musgrave's achievement underscores Britain's growing presence in the sport. "We've definitely put ourselves on the map as a cross-country nation and shown we can compete," he said, even as teammate James Clugnet finished 34th in the same race.
