Amy Hunt and Dina Asher‑Smith made history as Great Britain stormed to a mixed 4×100m relay victory at the European Championships in Birmingham. Hunt held up four fingers after holding off Germany’s challenge on the home straight, claiming an unprecedented fourth gold for the 24‑year‑old. The quartet finished in a European record 39.97 seconds, adding to Hunt’s triumphs in the 100m, 200m and women’s 4×100m over the past seven days.

Asher‑Smith celebrated her eighth gold and 11th medal overall, cementing herself as the most successful athlete in the 92‑year history of the championships. The team also featured Jeremiah Azu and Zharnel Hughes, extending the hosts’ domination of the sprint events. Georgia Hunter‑Bell added a commanding 1500m gold, her seventh international medal in two years, while long‑jumper Jazmin Sawyers produced a career‑best 6.99m, narrowly missing gold.

Great Britain finished with nine golds and 19 medals, though Italy topped the medal table by a slim margin, edging Britain in the men’s 4×400m relay. The home crowd roared as Hunt and the team celebrated the historic win, with Hunt describing Asher‑Smith as "the real life GOAT" after her record‑equalling seventh gold. The relay victory capped a spectacular week for GB, with athletes like Matthew Hudson‑Smith surpassing French sprinter Christophe Lemaitre as the most decorated man in championship history.
