The Women's League Cup is set for a major overhaul next season, adopting a Swiss-style league phase and a potential name change. The Women's Super League (WSL) confirmed clubs qualifying for the Women's Champions League will not compete, addressing fixture congestion.

The new format guarantees more games for all participants. All clubs enter the league phase, playing six others, with the top eight advancing to quarter-finals. This aims to close the gap between top-tier and second-tier teams, who currently face a stark disparity in match minutes.

The competition's name is under review, as it won't involve all league teams. Organisers are finalising plans with clubs and partners, aiming for FA approval within four weeks. The changes respond to a crowded calendar, with the WSL expanding to 14 teams next year.
