Global spending in the women's professional game reached a record £20.7m ($28.6m) in 2025, according to a FIFA report. This represents an 83.6% increase from the previous year, fueled by rising investment and growing popularity. A total of 2,440 cross-border transfers were completed, showcasing the sport's global expansion.

The Women's Super League clubs led the way, with England accounting for the largest outlay at £7.9m ($11m). The USA followed with £5.8m ($7.9m). Grace Geyoro's move to London City Lionesses for a reported £1.4m ($1.9m) set a new world record. Chelsea was involved in two of the top five transfer fees.

This surge reflects the increased commercial value of women's football. While the men's game also saw record spending, the growth in the women's game is particularly striking. The trend indicates a positive trajectory for player salaries, investment, and overall interest in the sport.

Looking ahead, the continued growth of the Women's Super League and other top leagues will be key. Further investment in infrastructure and youth development will also be important. The sport's evolution will hinge on these factors, as well as the sustained success of national teams in major tournaments.
