Wales Urges Wales to Rise Against Albania in World Cup Qualifiers

Rhian Wilkinson has warned the Wales squad that they must show up in the upcoming double‑header against Albania if they hope to finish top of Group B1. The first leg will take place at Stok Cae Ras in Wrexham on Tuesday, with a return in Elbasan a week later.

Wales entered the campaign after a 6‑1 win over Montenegro and a 1‑1 draw with the Czech Republic, topping the group on goal difference. Wilkinson says the target is two victories, but warns that Albania’s squad contains several standout players who could expose any lapse.

Injuries have rattled the squad: Ceri Holland and Lois Joel are absent, and goalkeeper Olivia Clark is sidelined. Wilkinson will rely on Manchester United’s Safia Middleton‑Patel to start both matches, hoping the fresh keeper can handle the pressure of consecutive fixtures.

With the Czech Republic close behind, Wales must convert these encounters into points. A double‑header offers a rare chance to cement a top finish and a more favorable play‑off path for the 2027 World Cup. Failure to perform could leave the team scrambling to climb the standings.
