Tottenham vows rebuild after narrow escape from relegation

Tottenham Hotspur edged Everton 1‑0 on the final day, securing 17th place for a second consecutive season. Chairman Peter Charrington used the win to admit recent failings and pledge a full rebuild. He said the Lewis family authorised a “reset” after Daniel Levy stepped down, and noted he was joined at the stadium by Vivienne Lewis, Nick Beucher and finance officer Matthew Collecott.

Charrington highlighted “uncomfortable truths”: the squad lacked depth, key roles were filled without the right expertise, and the connection between team and supporters had faded. He praised manager Roberto de Zerbi, who signed a five‑year deal in March, for steering the side clear of relegation and delivering the point needed on the final day.

The club will overhaul its football operations, adding staff in medical and performance departments and investing in the academy and women’s side. Investment will span several transfer windows starting this summer, targeting quality signings to lift the side into the top‑six race. Appointments are expected in the coming weeks, with the aim of building squads capable of competing for Premier League and European honours.
