Tottenham launches audit to tackle injury crisis

Tottenham have opened a season‑long audit into the injury crisis that saw them scrape a 1‑0 win over Everton to avoid relegation. Performance director Dan Lewindon, recruited from City Football Group, will lead the review, focusing on the “unusual” cluster of ACL tears that sidelined James Maddison, Wilson Odobert and Xavi Simons and the club's medical team hope to prevent repeats.

The club calculated player availability at roughly 77% last campaign, equating to more than 2,000 missed days. Spurs aim to push that figure toward 90% and cut total absences below 1,000 days, though achieving such a swing before the next season proves challenging. Investigations include pitch‑bounce analysis at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and at Enfield, with data showing no major discrepancies or training surface variations later.

Lewindon recommends personalised medical dossiers that blend strength, fatigue and psychological metrics, plus greater freedom for players to rehab with external specialists under a shared recovery plan. A full‑time head of psychology will join the staff, and coordination between coach Roberto de Zerbi, medical personnel and players will decide any accelerated return. The audit aims to turn the injury epidemic into a manageable risk.
