Thousands of England fans flock to Dallas for World Cup opener

England supporters are converging on Dallas for the Three Lions' opening match against Croatia. The official England Supporters' Travel Club sold its full allocation of 4,022 tickets, while the UK Football Policing Unit estimates between 12,000 and 15,000 fans will occupy the stadium each group‑stage game. Many travel independently or as expatriates, numbers that remain untracked.

Ticket prices have sparked outrage. For the Croatia fixture, original categories cost £198, £373 or £523, but resale listings now top £1,300 for Category 1. A ‘supporter standard’ ticket appeared at £3,192 before fees, ten times its face value. The Football Association blocked cheap £45 tickets from early resale, yet scarcity forces supporters to chase any seat, even at inflated costs.

Fans on the ground report spending £850 each on tickets plus expensive flights, hotels and stadium food, prompting many to rely on fan zones rather than seats. Compared with 2006 Germany, when an estimated 350,000 Britons travelled, the 2026 outing feels muted. Despite the financial strain, the vocal English contingent is expected to create a lively atmosphere throughout the match, giving the Dallas crowd a noticeable English presence.
