SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell confirmed that the search for a successor starts immediately. Although Clarke had recently signed a four-year contract, his departure leaves a significant leadership vacuum. Maxwell noted that interest in the role has already arrived from various sources, emphasizing that the federation will look globally to find the right candidate.

Scotland now faces a transition period ahead of their Nations League fixtures against North Macedonia, Slovenia, and Switzerland. The federation is prioritizing a manager capable of building toward the 2028 Euros, which Scotland will co-host. The search for a replacement begins amidst a period of significant structural change for the national squad.
