Sky Sports TV Picks: How Premier League Scheduling Hurts Fans

Sky Sports' dominance in Premier League broadcasting is creating a scheduling nightmare for fans, particularly for clubs like Everton and Manchester United. When Everton discovered their May match against Manchester City was moved to a Monday night, it became the final straw. Seven of their matches have now been shifted to the Monday 20:00 slot, with only three Saturday 3pm fixtures at Goodison Park. This follows a pattern where Manchester United have had eight games moved to Friday or Monday, including eight at Old Trafford.

The Premier League's shift to 270 live games this season inevitably impacts scheduling, but Sky's control of four of the five TV packages allows it to prioritize its most popular matches. Champions League and Europa League participation shields top clubs from midweek fixtures, leaving others like Burnley and Brighton with fewer moved games. However, Manchester United and Everton face disproportionate disruption due to their opponents' European commitments. The Everton Fan Advisory Board calls this 'another signal of disregard' for supporters, while Manchester United has promised to 'advocate on behalf of fans'.
