Queiroz Resigns as Ghana Coach After World Cup Exit

Carlos Queiroz has stepped down as Ghana head coach after just three months, departing on Sunday following the Black Stars' 1-0 loss to Colombia in the World Cup round of 16. The 73-year-old, managing at his fifth consecutive World Cup after spells with Iran, Portugal and Egypt, guided Ghana to third place in Group L with a win over Panama, a draw against England and a defeat to Croatia before the knockout exit.

The team's tactical approach drew scrutiny across four matches where they scored only twice while conceding three goals. Despite the early departure, Queiroz framed his tenure as a restoration of "respect and credibility" for the program, insisting in a social media statement that "success must start off the field, by creating the best possible environment to prepare, protect and develop Ghana's extraordinary football talent."

Jordan also parted ways with coach Jamal Sellami on the same day after a group-stage exit. For Ghana, attention now shifts to September's 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where the four-time champions — absent from the 2025 edition for the first time since 2004 — face Ivory Coast, The Gambia and Somalia in Group C.

The federation's next appointment will define whether Queiroz's brief stint represents a reset or another false start for a program that has cycled through five coaches since 2020.
