Paris St-Germain have been forced to move their opening Ligue 1 game after severe heatwave damage to the Parc des Princes pitch. The French champions were scheduled to face Rennes at home on Sunday, but the fixture will now be reversed and played in Brittany instead. Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) officials determined that pitch conditions in Paris did not allow the match to proceed under safe conditions for player safety and integrity. PSG confirmed they will replace the pitch before their next home fixture against Monaco on 4 September, acknowledging the inconvenience but citing an exceptional situation.

France experienced its hottest day on record on 24 June, with temperatures nearing 41C in Paris and over half the country under red heat alerts. Mortality rates surged during this period, with 2,025 excess deaths recorded nationally between 22 and 28 June, and a 62% increase in the Paris region alone. The extreme heat has also affected other European clubs, including Spanish side Celta Vigo, who postponed their La Liga opener due to fungal growth on their pitch after prolonged temperatures above 25C.

The LFP emphasized that player safety remains paramount, supporting PSG's decision to relocate the match and prioritize pitch restoration ahead of upcoming fixtures.
