PSG Gets Extended Break Before Chelsea Champions League Clash

Paris Saint-Germain will enjoy a five-day rest between their Champions League last-16 matches against Chelsea after successfully postponing their Ligue 1 fixture against Nantes. The European champions had been scheduled to face the struggling side on the weekend of March 13-15, sandwiched between their two legs against the Premier League club. Chelsea will host Newcastle United on March 14, three days before traveling to Paris.

Ligue 1 officials granted PSG's request to reschedule the Nantes match, moving it to the week of April 20. The Ligue de Football Professionnel board made the decision in agreement with Nantes, citing the need to optimize preparation for the high-profile European tie. This marks the second consecutive season PSG has had a Nantes fixture postponed around Champions League knockout matches.

Last year, a similar scheduling adjustment was made when PSG faced Aston Villa in the quarter-finals. The timing of these matches becomes particularly significant given Chelsea's recent 3-0 victory over PSG in the FIFA Club World Cup final. Luis Enrique's side will need to manage their squad carefully across this congested fixture period.
