The Norwegian Football Federation is considering a formal complaint to FIFA's ethics committee over the suspension of Folarin Balogun's automatic one-match ban during the World Cup. The United States forward received a straight red card in a 2-0 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina, which should have ruled him out of the last-16 tie against Belgium. However, after intervention from Donald Trump, the ban was suspended for 12 months with no detailed explanation.

NFF president Lise Klaveness expressed "strong concern," stating a decision on filing a complaint would be made at the next board meeting. The federation has already challenged FIFA's Peace Prize award to Trump. Klaveness said the Balogun case should be included in the ethics inquiry. Reports suggest the IOC may also investigate Gianni Infantino, an IOC member since 2020, over potential charter violations.

Trump confirmed speaking with Infantino, calling FIFA's decision "great" while insisting he did not dictate the outcome. Belgium won the match 4-1. The Royal Belgian Football Federation said it was "deeply concerned" and would defend ethics and fair competition. FIFA ruled Belgium's request for explanation "inadmissible," while UEFA condemned the decision as having "crossed a red line," calling it "unprecedented, incomprehensible and unjustifiable."
