Nicky Clark, 34, has taken the helm at Queen of the South, appointing his father Sandy as assistant. The move marks Clark’s first managerial role after playing for Rangers and Dundee United. The duo returns to Palmerston Park, where Clark netted seven goals in 13 games last season to steer the club towards promotion ambition.

Sandy, 69, re‑joins after two prior spells as Queen of the South’s assistant under Allan Johnston. A former Rangers and Hearts centre‑forward, he left Albion Rovers to pair with his son. Their last joint success came in 2012‑13, when Clark scored 41 goals and helped Queens win a Second Division and Challenge Cup double together.

Clark will also register as a player for the 2024‑25 season, a dual role the club says fits into a structure that lets him balance matchday duties with coaching responsibilities. The club’s board believes the father‑son partnership injects fresh ideas while drawing on Sandy’s extensive management experience to lift Queens into the Championship next season.

Queens’ management overhaul comes as the club seeks to climb from League One after a 15‑year wait for promotion. With Clark’s proven goal‑scoring record and Sandy’s tactical acumen, the duo aims to rebuild squad depth and secure a top‑four finish. The appointment signals a renewed ambition and a clear plan for progression in the season.
