Bayern Munich forward Jamal Musiala is being treated for a neurological dysfunction after collapsing twice during pre-season friendlies. The 21-year-old's condition was known to the club before the World Cup but had not previously affected his performances. Honorary president Uli Hoeness confirmed that medical experts have cleared Musiala to play, providing written assurance that there are no concerns regarding his participation in high-performance sport. Despite this clearance, many supporters questioned the decision to allow Musiala to play so soon after his first collapse against Leipzig.

Harry Kane expressed the team's full support for Musiala, calling him a great player and emphasizing that he is a big part of the team. Following his collapse on Tuesday, Musiala posted a statement on Instagram revealing that the seizures have become part of his everyday life.

Dr. Meneka Sidhu, a consultant neurologist, explained that absence seizures can cause brief loss of awareness and may result in falls. When effectively treated, there is no reason such seizures should prevent someone from playing sport. Other elite athletes, including rugby player Tommy Freeman, have successfully managed similar conditions.

Musiala's recent diagnosis adds to a series of setbacks over the past 18 months, including a serious traffic accident, a broken leg, and ankle surgery. German football expert Constantin Eckner noted that Bayern's £43m summer signing of Ismael Saibari was partly intended to provide cover for Musiala's ongoing fitness concerns.
