Memphis Depay has accused Corinthians of "unacceptable behaviour" and breaching an agreement after the club decided against renewing his contract. The former Manchester United and Barcelona forward joined the Sao Paulo side on a two‑year deal in 2024, but now finds himself out of contract after the club withdrew a previously agreed extension.

Depay wrote on social media that the renewal was agreed by the president and the sporting, legal and financial department, yet some chose to breach it. He said he respected the club but feels forced to react strongly to protect his interests and warned he will speak publicly soon.

On the pitch, Depay contributed 20 goals in 79 appearances, helping Corinthians win the Copa do Brasil in 2025 and the Supercopa do Brasil. The 32‑year‑old remains the Netherlands' all‑time leading scorer, though he failed to score in three matches as his side exited the 2026 World Cup last 32.

The club said finances made the decision necessary, noting that a large commitment would threaten the institution's sustainability. President Osmar Stabile will hold a press conference soon, while Depay vowed not to let the unacceptable behaviour go unpunished.
