Everton captain Megan Finnigan has signed a one-year contract extension with the Women's Super League club. The new deal will see Finnigan, 28, spend a total of 20 years at Everton, including her formative years in the club's academy.

Finnigan, a centre-back, had her previous season cut short by an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. Despite this setback, she expressed optimism about her recovery, stating she is "feeling very positive" and "in a good place." She has been diligently working in the off-season to facilitate her return to the pitch.

"This will be my 20th year at the club and that's special for me," Finnigan remarked. "Hopefully it is even more special because it is the season that I make my return." Finnigan has amassed over 200 appearances for the Blues since her senior debut in 2015.
