Scotland’s return to the World Cup ignited a new £20 banknote, its first limited‑edition issue in 25 years. Bank of Scotland unveiled the design on Thursday, spotlighting midfielder McTominay’s overhead kick against Denmark that sealed a 4‑2 victory at Hampden Park. Only 100 notes will circulate, with half sold via auction, draw and pop‑ups for collectors and fans alike today.

The banknote marries classic paper‑money motifs with a dynamic image of McTominay’s goal, echoing the nation’s football heritage. Emma Noble, chair of the Scottish executive committee, said the gesture captures a moment fans will never forget. Proceeds from the auction and prize draw will fund Crisis Scotland, a charity tackling homelessness across the country for thousands of vulnerable residents today.

Fans can claim a note in Glasgow or Edinburgh by guessing a vault code, or submit bids online until 11 a.m. on June 26. The limited run celebrates a milestone that will see Scotland compete in the 2026 World Cup, where they face Haiti, Morocco and Brazil in the U.S. and Mexico. The initiative blends sport, culture and charity in a single currency.
