Mapi Leon Mapi Leon has signed with London City Lionesses after leaving Barcelona, saying the new project offers a chance to test herself in a different league and help grow women's football in England.

The centre‑back had boycotted the Spain national team for nearly three years over working‑condition disputes with the federation. She missed the 2023 World Cup, Euro 2025, but returned in October 2025, starting the Nations League final as Spain beat Germany 3‑0.

London City Lionesses, backed by billionaire Michele Kang, finished sixth in their debut WSL season and aim for European qualification. The club’s recent window saw the arrival of two‑time Ballon d’Or winner ñar (Putellas), England goalkeeper Mary Earps, Germany forward Nicole Anyomi and Denmark defender Janni Thomsen.

Leon said her experience and leadership will help settle in, and she is eager to keep winning with a club built specifically for women. She hopes the team sorti‑ante can achieve new heights this season.
