Last summer, Fernandes ignored a £57m release clause from Al‑Hilal, feeling the stance hurt him. This time, United are explicit: the captain is not for sale, regardless of price. He has one year left on his contract and would prefer to stay. No extension has been agreed.

The firm stance follows a warm reception in Dublin during a pre‑season game against Leeds where fans celebrated his Premier League record of 21 assists. He is a favourite for the 2025‑26 PFA Player of the Year award.
