Harry Maguire hopes Marcus Rashford stays at Manchester United, calling him a "big asset" who "can improve us for sure." Rashford appeared as a second-half substitute in his first game since December 2024 during a 4-2 pre-season loss to AC Milan in Wroclaw, wearing the number nine shirt and threatening the backline.

United officials stressed the number is not permanent, especially with striker Benjamin Sesko unavailable through injury, highlighting uncertainty around Rashford's future before the 1 September transfer deadline. Michael Carrick and Maguire both remain unsure whether the England forward will stay.

Maguire admitted this was United's "worst" pre-season performance ahead of their Premier League opener at Hull. Bruno Fernandes missed a penalty for the second consecutive game, though his link-up with Youri Tielemans was encouraging. Maguire, who captained early pre-season games, may serve as vice-captain this season.

There were warm embraces for former manager Ruben Amorim, who told Gazzetta dello Sport he remains proud of his time at United. Maguire praised Amorim, saying he "got on with Ruben really well" and wishes him success. Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo acknowledged supporters as Amorim departed.
