Liverpool's 18-year-old defender Ifeanyi Ndukwe has impressed in pre-season under new boss Andoni Iraola, starting alongside captain Virgil van Dijk against Monaco and winning 100% of his duels. The imposing 6ft 6in Austrian youth international, signed from Austria Vienna for £2.6m in January, has grasped unexpected minutes due to injuries to Joe Gomez, Jeremy Jacquet, and Giovanni Leoni.

However, post-Brexit work permit rules prevent Ndukwe from playing competitive matches. He lacks the points for a Governing Body Endorsement (GBE), and Liverpool's sole Elite Significant Contribution (ESC) slot is already occupied by Senegalese teenager Mor Talla Ndiaye. Clubs earn ESC slots based on England Qualified Player minutes; Liverpool's low percentage last season limited them to one.

Van Dijk labelled Ndukwe a "big talent" but confirmed he must go on loan to accumulate the 15 points needed for a visa. His agent Georg Lederer says several top European clubs have expressed interest, with a decision expected within a fortnight. If Ndukwe earns sufficient points on loan, he could potentially return to feature for Liverpool after January.
