Leicester City on brink of relegation to League One after Portsmouth loss

Leicester City are on the brink of relegation to League One and could go down as early as Tuesday night. The Foxes must beat promotion-chasing Hull City to give themselves any hope of survival, but even then, results elsewhere could seal their fate with nine points still to play for.

Relegation would complete one of English football's most remarkable full-circle moments. Leicester were crowned Premier League champions at 5,000-1 odds in 2016, just seven years after a one-year stay in League One. This season's six-point penalty for historical spending breaches has hurt the club, though they would still be in the bottom three without it.

Defeat by relegation rivals Portsmouth on Saturday left Leicester eight points adrift of safety. Former England international Harry Winks exchanged foul-mouthed verbal volleys with supporters at Fratton Park, while goalkeeper Asmir Begovic admitted he "can understand the frustrations" but insists "everything is still possible" with three games remaining.

Fan protests have called for owner Khun Aiyawatt 'Top' Srivaddhanaprabha to sell the club and for sporting director Jon Rudkin to leave. Chants of "You're not fit to wear the shirt" echoed from travelling supporters at Fratton Park.
